From god to God-like

I had the privilege of preaching yesterday from Romans 5:6-11 and other passages as we looked at how the Gospel has an effect on our relationships.  We were once enemies of God, and it was at that point that Christ died for us.  Not when we were “on the right path,” not because he knew we would respond, not when we were searching for him. Christ died for us when we hated him and wanted to destroy him.  In response, we are told in 1 John 4:11 that we also ought to love as Christ loved; we are not allowed to hold grudges, keep a record of wrongs and dwell in a state of unforgiveness. Our love ought to be the pursuing love modeled in the way in which Christ came and pursued reconciliation through the Cross.
